Principal Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI customer-service SaaS organization seeking a Principal Engineer in Berlin. In this role, you will lead the definition and execution of key strategic technical initiatives across the engineering organization. You will work autonomously and be accountable for strategic execution, building both back-end and front-end systems in close collaboration with designers, product managers, researchers, and data analysts.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Leading strategic projects with mastery of domain knowledge across the R&D organization
• Providing assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to engineering leadership to guide resource allocation and prioritization
• Contributing to technical architecture for large-scale systems that service high-volume requests
• Balancing agility with scalability and availability, working within a continuous deployment environment with incremental releases and feature flags
• Contributing to all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation with a mix of hands-on development and architecture work
• Playing an active role in hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers
• Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence

What We're Looking For

• Significant demonstrated impact from your work on products and engineering teams
• Experience building SaaS products used by customers worldwide
• Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language such as Ruby, Python, or Perl
• Experience with distributed systems
• 2+ years of experience as the primary technical leader for a team
• Proven track record of collaborating directly with technical leaders, product teams, and designers to deliver value to customers
• Strong sense of product strategy and pragmatic engineering approach
