Principal AI Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the design, development, and adoption of AI systems within a strategic business domain. You will combine deep AI engineering expertise with product and business understanding to identify high-impact opportunities, define roadmaps, and deliver measurable outcomes.

As the AI technical lead for your domain, you will:

• Own tech strategy: Identify high-value opportunities with business leaders and define the technical vision and agent product roadmap for your domain (examples include Sales, GTM and Marketing, or Finance and Legal)
• Lead AI system development: Design and build production-grade AI systems, drive architecture decisions, and ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Drive adoption and business impact: Work closely with end users, measure adoption and outcomes, and accelerate AI transformation across your domain
• Establish technical excellence: Promote best practices for evaluation, testing, guardrails, and observability; review designs and mentor engineers; raise the quality bar across initiatives
• Grow AI capability: Mentor AI Engineers and Agent Builders, share knowledge and reusable components, and build AI expertise within the organization

This is a permanent position (CDI) based in Paris with 4 days on-site per week.

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, ML Engineering, or Applied AI
• Strong hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, AI Agents, evaluation, and production systems
• Proven ability to influence product and business decisions
• Demonstrated leadership on complex cross-functional initiatives
• Proficiency with the following technical stack:
  • Languages: Python and SQL
  • AI Stack: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, and open-source models
  • Agentic and Retrieval: LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, MCP, and Vector Databases
  • Infrastructure: AWS or GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes

Success in this role is measured by business impact delivered by AI initiatives, adoption within the domain, technical quality and reliability, and team capability growth.
