Operational Manager, Cloud Services DevOps

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential payments technology organization seeking an Operational Manager for their Cloud Services DevOps function in London. This newly created role will shape the future of global cloud operations and drive enterprise-wide infrastructure transformation.

Programme & Delivery Management

• Take end-to-end ownership of complex cloud, infrastructure, and automation programmes from inception through completion
• Implement robust project governance, track budgets, and manage RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies)
• Report progress to senior stakeholders and maintain delivery accountability
• Coordinate onshore and offshore engineering teams, defining roles, workflows, and deliverable schedules
• Facilitate communication between software development, IT operations, security teams, and external clients

Technical & DevOps Oversight

• Oversee management and scaling of multi-cloud environments including AWS, Azure, or private cloud platforms
• Ensure adherence to best practices in infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment pipelines using tools like Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
• Embed security standards (DevSecOps), compliance requirements, and ITIL frameworks into core delivery lifecycle
• Monitor platform reliability, uptime targets (SLAs), and logging/monitoring frameworks
• Bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and technical execution across cross-functional engineering teams

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

• Proven track record managing enterprise-scale cloud transformation or DevOps programmes
• Strong background working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery models within fast-paced environments
• Budget management experience and familiarity with tracking toolsets such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or MS Project

Technical Competencies

• Deep conceptual or hands-on understanding of cloud architecture including SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and containerization/Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps
• Awareness of infrastructure automation and configuration management tools including Terraform and Ansible

Leadership & Communication

• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills to articulate technical solutions to non-technical audiences
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities to guide engineering teams through operational change
• Ability to optimize continuous integration/continuous deployment environments and cloud hosting operations
