Medical Assistant – Family Medicine

Promedica is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our Family Medicine team in Carleton. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care and support to physicians in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Role Overview

As a Medical Assistant in our Family Medicine practice, you'll be the vital bridge between patients and clinical staff. In this hands-on role, you'll combine administrative expertise with clinical skills to ensure smooth operations and exceptional patient experiences. You'll work alongside physicians and nurses to deliver comprehensive care—from preventive health maintenance to management of acute conditions—building meaningful connections with patients across all ages and demographics.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Greet patients, record vital signs, and maintain detailed medical records
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor in-office procedures
• Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms, sterilize medical instruments, and ensure clinical readiness
• Document clinical findings in electronic health records and ensure HIPAA compliance
• Draw blood samples and process laboratory work according to established protocols
• Coordinate scheduling, manage patient communications, and handle appointment logistics
• Support billing, insurance verification, and other administrative functions

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential or equivalent clinical experience
• High school diploma or GED required; healthcare-related associate degree preferred
• Strong grasp of medical terminology, human anatomy, and patient care best practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities in a collaborative healthcare environment
• Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Current CPR and BLS certification
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and regulatory healthcare compliance
