Lead Mechanical Engineer, Deployment Engineering

Fluidstack seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer for Deployment Engineering—a remote, full-time role based in Austin, Texas. You'll oversee deployment and commissioning of mechanical and cooling systems across our data center portfolio, ensuring every site launches operationally ready to support AI workloads at scale.

What This Role Involves

You'll bridge engineering excellence with operational reality, taking meticulously designed systems into live production. Your work ensures cooling and mechanical systems—chilled water loops, CDUs, direct liquid cooling—survive AI workload intensity and earn operations' confidence from day one.

Your Responsibilities

• Oversee deployment and commissioning of mechanical and cooling systems across concurrent sites, from pre-deployment validation through operational handover.
• Manage thermal and mechanical reliability across the live fleet, diagnosing anomalies and deploying durable fixes that scale.
• Author and maintain commissioning standards, test procedures, and runbooks for cooling equipment that enable independent team execution.
• Lead on-site technical work during equipment startup, performance testing, and load validation; resolve field issues before they impact timelines.
• Establish mechanical reliability benchmarks across all facilities: preventive maintenance intervals, redundancy validation, and performance validation under live AI load.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience leading field deployment and commissioning of mechanical systems in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Hands-on expertise commissioning and troubleshooting cooling systems—chilled water, CDUs, direct liquid cooling—on live infrastructure.
• Track record developing commissioning standards, test procedures, and maintenance documentation across multi-site portfolios.
• Proven ability diagnosing and resolving mechanical failures and thermal challenges in live environments under pressure.
• Experience mentoring mechanical engineers and building independent commissioning capability.
• Willingness to travel to deployment and operations sites up to 50 percent of the time.
• Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license; direct-to-chip or AI-class liquid cooling experience; multi-site commissioning or reliability program leadership; CMMS and thermal monitoring platform familiarity; CFD tools (6SigmaET, Icepak) proficiency.
