We are representing a confidential fusion energy organization at the forefront of advanced stellarator development in Europe. Our client is building next-generation hardware to make commercial fusion power a reality, combining cutting-edge plasma physics with practical engineering execution.

As their recruiting partner, Get A Job.ai is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Munich-based team. This role offers the opportunity to shape critical systems for a first-of-a-kind energy technology, working across disciplines including magnets, cryogenics, thermal systems, and advanced manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative mechanical designs for major systems within an advanced stellarator fusion machine, ensuring integration with physics, structural, and mechanical subsystems
• Perform thermal and structural analysis of mechanical designs, providing recommendations and implementing design improvements
• Conduct technology trade-offs, materials selection studies, and feasibility assessments to support net energy system development
• Design, deliver, and support prototyping and verification activities for components, materials, assemblies, and manufacturing processes
• Collaborate with external suppliers and partners to guide development and manufacture of critical components and systems
• Work within multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, dynamic R&D environment

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience designing and analyzing mechanical components and assemblies with proficiency in CAD software (experience with 3DExperience/CATIA v6 and ANSYS is highly beneficial)
• Background in conceptual and detailed design of mechanical, structural, thermal, or electro-mechanical equipment for research, development, prototyping, or manufacturing applications
• Knowledge of materials selection and design for challenging environments: high temperature, cryogenic, electromagnetic, or vacuum applications
• Demonstrated ability to work with and manage external suppliers in collaborative technical settings
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a willingness to experiment, take calculated risks, and learn from setbacks
• Proficiency with Python or other scientific programming languages is beneficial but not required
• Located in or willing to relocate to Munich, Germany
