Lead-Entwickler Java Backend (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public-sector technology organization seeking a Lead Java Backend Developer for a critical platform modernization initiative. This remote role runs from October 2026 through September 2027, with 90% remote work (Germany-based only) and occasional travel to Nuremberg.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Architecting and evolving mission-critical software and application architectures
• Providing technical leadership and support to project and development teams
• Maintaining and advancing existing Java backend components and solutions
• Contributing to enterprise-wide software architecture and security initiatives, coordinating with technical and domain architects
• Administering, maintaining, and evolving the Kubernetes-based container platform
• Delivering technical second- and third-level support, including error analysis and resolution
• Managing deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management
• Implementing security updates and conducting security scans
• Enabling new DevSecOps teams and supporting cross-functional container platform initiatives
• Supporting integration, testing, and quality assurance activities
• Organizing and participating in Communities of Practice and tracking outcomes

Important: This position requires willingness to undergo security clearance (SÜ2 nach § 9 SÜG Geheim/Sabotageschutz).

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a senior-level technical leader with deep Java backend expertise and proven experience guiding development teams. Required qualifications include:

• Multiple years of experience as a lead developer in Java backend environments, with proven ability to design and evolve complex software architectures
• Expert knowledge of J(2)EE/EJB/Servlets, multi-tier applications, object-oriented design and modeling (OOA/OOD, UML), MDA, TDD, and DDD
• Strong proficiency with EJB containers and application servers (Oracle WebLogic, Payara), Spring, Hibernate/EclipseLink/JPA 2, Java tooling (Maven, JUnit), relational databases (especially Oracle), and SQL
• Experience with data migration, legacy integration, and standard testing approaches (unit, performance, end-to-end)
• Knowledge of version control, configuration management, Jira, and Confluence
• Specialized expertise in DevSecOps, particularly Kubernetes administration and container technologies
• Advanced knowledge in GoLang, JavaScript, Kafka, S3, Quarkus, Oracle databases, web components (Angular, Stencil), XML, JSON, and PACT
• Proficiency with CI/CD using GitHub, Nexus, Tekton, and Jenkins
• In-depth experience with JUnit, Karate/Cucumber, consumer-driven contract testing, load/performance testing, and end-to-end testing
• Hands-on experience with DevOps methodologies and agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban), clean code development, and pair programming
• Knowledge of secure software development practices, including security risks, secure design principles and patterns, and secure coding techniques
• Demonstrated experience in technical team leadership, consulting, coaching, and collaborating with architecture and development teams
