Head of Operations

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI research organization at the forefront of foundation model development. Our client is experiencing rapid growth following significant recent funding and is building the operational infrastructure to scale from a lean team to a much larger organization over the coming years.

As Head of Operations, you will report to the co-CEO responsible for go-to-market and operations. You will own operational excellence across the company, partnering with functional leads in Finance, Legal, People, IT, InfoSec, and Compliance. This is a rare opportunity to build the operating engine that will support exceptional growth in a deeply technical, research-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the operating systems that enable rapid scaling across headcount, revenue, and organizational complexity
• Drive operational excellence across finance, people operations, legal, and business operations functions
• Anticipate operational bottlenecks before they constrain growth and implement scalable solutions proactively
• Resolve complex, cross-functional challenges by convening stakeholders and driving projects to completion
• Serve as a strategic decision partner to leadership, surfacing risks early and turning decisions into executable action
• Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing operations team that sets the standard for execution
• Coordinate operations across multiple countries and jurisdictions as the organization expands globally

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Proven experience operating through rapid company scaling, with firsthand knowledge of what breaks at each growth stage and how to build ahead of it
• Track record running operations across multiple countries and regions, comfortable with global complexity
• Senior-level operational ownership across two or more functions such as finance, people, legal, or business operations
• Demonstrated ability to build and inspire operations teams, with a reputation that attracts top operational talent
• Radical ownership mindset—you run toward the hardest problems rather than delegating them away
• Calm and decisive under ambiguity, able to set clear priorities when faced with competing demands

Strong additional qualifications:

• Experience in AI, data infrastructure, or developer tools markets
• Background building operations functions that scaled from startup through significant growth milestones
• Comfort working credibly with highly technical, research-oriented teams

The ideal candidate is energized by building systems that unlock growth rather than maintaining existing processes, and brings practical pragmatism—implementing as much structure as needed without introducing unnecessary complexity.

Location

This role is based in Berlin. In exceptional circumstances, remote or hybrid arrangements may be considered, typically requiring frequent travel to company offices.
