About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-established Berlin-based SaaS company in their search for a Head of Finance and Operations. Our client operates a low-code platform serving thousands of customers across Europe, from small teams to enterprise organizations. They are a mature, venture-backed business with approximately 80 employees, strong market presence, and consistent growth over more than a decade.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing Finance, IT, People, and Operations—managing nine professionals across four distinct disciplines. You will report directly to C-level executives and serve as the operational backbone of the organization, with primary accountability centered on the finance function.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop teams across Finance (4 people), IT, People, and Operations, establishing common standards, service levels, and priorities across all four functions
• Own the complete accounting cycle from transaction to month-end close: accounts receivable/payable, payment runs, collections, payroll, and financial reporting
• Manage the finance team handling day-to-day bookkeeping and ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial operations
• Oversee financial systems including DATEV, billing platforms, CRM, and data warehouse, leveraging modern AI-based standards to create integrated, automated reporting
• Serve as the primary finance contact for the CEO and leadership team, delivering insights on SaaS metrics including ARR, MRR, gross and net retention, revenue recognition, and cohort analysis
• Set standards and service levels for IT and office operations, coordinating hardware provisioning, onboarding, and compliance frameworks including ISO 27001 and 9001
• Collaborate with the outgoing CFO who will transition to a fractional advisory role, providing strategic support on board matters, financing, and transactions while you run day-to-day operations
• Design and implement process improvements that eliminate manual work and create scalable, growth-ready operations

What We're Looking For

• Several years in a senior finance leadership role at a growing company, with direct responsibility for month-end close from journal entries through reporting
• Hands-on capability: you can step in and execute the work yourself when team members are unavailable—this is a player-coach position
• Solid German accounting practice under HGB standards, with practical experience using DATEV, managing payroll, and collaborating with tax advisors
• People management experience leading finance teams (ideally in accounting) with the confidence to set standards for IT and People functions even outside your technical expertise
• Deep familiarity with SaaS financial metrics: ARR, MRR, retention rates, deferred revenue, cohort analysis, and the corresponding reporting requirements
• Demonstrated track record of process automation: replacing manual workflows with self-generating reports and reconciliations that run without human intervention
• Ability to discuss data warehouses, billing systems, and CRM architecture without requiring a developer in the room—you don't need to write SQL, but you must understand the data flow
• Fluent German (negotiation-level, as this is the working and accounting language) and fluent English
• Advantageous: experience with due diligence, audits, or financing rounds; exposure to funding programs such as GRW or IBB; familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO, GRC, or ISMS

Pay

The compensation for this role includes a base salary of €100,000–€120,000 depending on experience, plus a variable component tied to a scorecard you will help design. There is also potential participation in an employee equity program (ESOP).
