About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential B2B SaaS organization in Germany that is building a market-leading platform in the lead generation and customer acquisition space. Our talent team is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead their technical organization through the next phase of growth.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a true leadership role where you'll own the full engineering function—product development, data infrastructure, software delivery, and platform operations—while working 100% remotely from anywhere in Germany or from their office in Bremen.
Responsibilities
- Lead an 8-person technical team spanning development, data engineering, and infrastructure—including 1:1s, goal-setting, career development, and recruiting
- Own day-to-day engineering operations: prioritization, resource planning, escalations, and technical decision-making currently handled by the CTO
- Drive delivery of the product roadmap across product, data, software, and infrastructure—ensuring committed timelines are met
- Establish predictable delivery processes for planning, development, testing, and releases with clear visibility across the organization
- Build a reliable data foundation for key business metrics (leads, appointments, orders) that sales, marketing, and leadership can trust
- Own platform stability, security, and scalability—including monitoring, incident management, backups, access controls, and GDPR compliance
- Stay technically engaged: evaluate architecture decisions, participate in code reviews, and maintain the ability to dive into code when needed
- Actively manage technical debt: identify it, assess business impact, and negotiate prioritization with stakeholders
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for business teams, translating requirements into engineering execution
- Manage external vendors, tools, and IT budget
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 2 years leading technical teams (3+ people) as Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or similar role
- Solid technical background with ideally 5+ years as a hands-on developer—you've built what you now lead
- Multi-disciplinary leadership: experience managing not just development but also data and/or infrastructure teams
- Cloud infrastructure expertise: practical experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus CI/CD and modern web/platform architectures
- Strong prioritization skills: you can confidently say no and maintain course when multiple stakeholders compete for resources
- Process implementation experience: you've introduced processes that teams actually follow without creating bureaucracy
- Data-driven approach: you measure before deciding and make results transparent to others
- Excellent communication with non-technical stakeholders: you can explain technical trade-offs to sales, marketing, and executives in language they understand and accept
- Self-directed and execution-focused: you identify what needs doing without waiting for instructions
- German fluency (C1 minimum) and good English skills required
- Experience in fast-growth environments (startup, scale-up, or agency) is a strong plus
- Background in lead generation, performance marketing, or B2B SaaS is a bonus but not required
Key Success Milestones:
- 0-3 months: Complete team assessment, system landscape review, risk identification (stability, security, delivery bottlenecks), and assumption of day-to-day operations from CTO
- 4-6 months: Establish roadmap visibility, implement monitoring/alerting/incident processes, close critical security gaps, deliver first reliable metrics reporting, and reduce CTO involvement to strategic matters only
- 7-12 months: Measurably improve delivery (faster cycle times, higher release frequency, fewer production errors), execute technical debt reduction plan, grow team according to plan, and ensure platform stability supports planned growth
