Senior DevOps/ Cloud Engineer (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential life-science technology organization based in Köln that is building critical data infrastructure for the pharmaceutical industry. Our talent team is seeking a Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer to join their platform engineering function and help scale their cloud operations across both SaaS and on-premise environments.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Köln with hybrid flexibility. On-site presence in the Cologne/NRW area is required; fully remote work is not available.

Responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot customer installations across SaaS environments and restrictive on-premise deployments
• Operate and scale core AWS infrastructure, including multi-account environments, EKS, RDS, S3, networking, and IAM
• Support product operations by maintaining and extending GitLab CI/CD pipelines and driving declarative GitOps workflows using ArgoCD/Kargo
• Develop platform automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), identity management solutions, and advanced observability capabilities
• Drive security operations through log reviews, vulnerability scanning, active monitoring, alerting, and supporting ISO 27001 compliance requirements
• Ensure operational resilience by transitioning infrastructure from single-point-of-failure risk to robust, well-documented architecture
• Manage incident response and serve as a senior technical pillar for the platform team

What We're Looking For

• 3–5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Platform Engineering with production exposure to a major cloud provider (AWS preferred, but Azure or GCP experience is valued)
• Strong foundational knowledge of Kubernetes ecosystem, Docker containerization, and CI/CD pipeline configuration (GitLab CI or similar)
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and declarative GitOps workflows
• Understanding of cloud security tooling and monitoring/observability solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Elasticsearch
• Strong engineering mindset with proven ability to rapidly learn new tools, architectures, and methodologies
• Business fluency in English
• Openness to integrating AI-assisted tools into daily scripting and debugging workflows
• Bonus skills: Experience with Elasticsearch, Keycloak, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, or compliance frameworks like ISO 27001
