Head of Engineering (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded PropTech organization in the DACH region that has built a leading real estate intelligence platform. Our client serves major asset managers, housing companies, and financial institutions, and is now scaling their AI-powered analytics capabilities to transform how investment and credit decisions are made in commercial real estate.

As Head of Engineering, you will lead a team of approximately 10 engineers and scale it further. You'll drive both continuous improvements for existing customers and new prototype innovations that expand the business model. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll shape technical strategy, foster team development, and ensure sustainable architecture that supports AI integration and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering team while maintaining high delivery velocity and code quality
• Partner with C-level executives, product, and data teams to evolve product strategy and find technically sound solutions
• Build scalable architecture that accommodates AI components, data pipelines, and future innovation
• Drive adoption of agentic engineering practices to expand platform capabilities
• Support sales and customer success teams in winning new clients through technical leadership
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ambitious goal-setting, and collaborative problem-solving
• Maintain freedom to experiment with new technologies while managing technical debt strategically
• Ensure clear communication and collaboration across the team

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of software engineering leadership and architecture experience
• Proven track record scaling engineering teams while maintaining high shipping velocity, ideally outside large corporate environments
• Strong expertise with TypeScript full-stack development (React, NestJS), GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS infrastructure
• Passion for growing teams, supporting individual development, and setting ambitious goals
• Systems thinking approach and first-principles problem-solving methodology
• Native-level or C1 German proficiency and fluent English
• Experience enabling teams rather than coding everything yourself
• Comfort with early-stage environments where processes are still being defined

Location and Work Arrangement
