Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential streaming-technology organization seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their distributed systems team in Cambridge. In this role, you will:
- Build large-scale platform products and services used by engineering teams and consumers across millions of devices
- Collaborate with product and design teams to take concepts from ideation through production deployment and ongoing support
- Lead technology evaluation efforts and champion best practices across the full development lifecycle, including code and design reviews
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment
- Participate in Agile development processes including scoping, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Monitor deployment quality and troubleshoot production systems at scale
What We're Looking For
Our client needs a senior engineer with deep expertise in distributed systems and cloud architecture:
- Strong software development experience in Java (Python is a plus)
- Proven expertise building large-scale cloud services, ideally in AWS
- Experience evaluating and selecting appropriate data stores with clear understanding of architectural trade-offs
- Hands-on experience with in-memory caching layers such as Redis, Redis Cluster, Memcached, or similar technologies
- Track record of production system monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliability engineering
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end web architecture from client devices through data center services
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- Comfort using AI tools and agent frameworks to accelerate development workflows
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, able to work closely with product teams and iterate quickly from prototypes through A/B testing to full release. You should thrive in environments where scaling, reliability, and automation are critical priorities.
