Functional Safety Programmer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics organization based in Munich that is scaling rapidly in the autonomous industrial automation space. Our talent team is seeking a Functional Safety Programmer to take technical ownership of embedded safety software and functional safety compliance for next-generation controller platforms.

This is a hands-on role where you will lead C/C++ safety software development, maintain certified PLC applications, and serve as the primary technical interface during formal certification processes with TÜV and other notified bodies.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test high-reliability safety software in C/C++ for Intel-based safety controllers
• Maintain and update certified safety applications on PLC platforms, including parameter management and variant support
• Apply functional safety processes and coding standards throughout the development lifecycle in accordance with ISO 13849-1, IEC 61508, and MISRA standards
• Author certification documentation including software safety requirements, system architecture, and verification evidence
• Serve as primary technical contact for TÜV and external notified bodies during formal safety assessments
• Coordinate technical work with freelancers, contractors, and development partners on the safety software stack

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Vocational training or degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or comparable field
• Several years of experience in embedded software development using C and C++
• Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or ISO 13849-1
• Working knowledge of MISRA C/C++ guidelines and static analysis tools
• Strong ownership mindset with pragmatic, structured, documentation-driven approach to engineering
• Very good English skills (German is a plus)

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Safety PLC programming or safety RTOS/hypervisors
• Prior hands-on experience with TÜV certification or other notified body audits
