About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential software consultancy seeking a Senior Full Stack and Backend NodeJS Engineer to join their remote team. This role is based in Costa Rica and offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact client projects in a collaborative environment that values quality and continuous growth.

We're looking for an experienced engineer with deep backend expertise who can contribute across the full stack when needed. You'll build scalable, secure systems and work with modern cloud infrastructure while collaborating with a distributed team of skilled professionals.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop low-latency API services using Node.js and TypeScript in AWS environments
• Build and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party services via SDKs
• Implement secure multi-tenant architectures with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB, including Row-Level Security
• Write raw SQL queries and manage schema migrations using tools like node-postgres and node-pg-migrate
• Contribute to React-based frontend development as needed to support full stack initiatives
• Implement comprehensive testing strategies, including integration tests against real databases and fault-injection testing
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth deployment processes
• Work with AI coding assistants to enhance development efficiency
• Collaborate with US-based teams during overlapping business hours

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a backend focus
• Strong professional experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript
• Proven experience building low-latency API services in AWS
• Experience building scalable RESTful APIs and SDK integrations
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB, including Row-Level Security (RLS)
• Experience building secure multi-tenant environments
• Comfortable writing raw SQL and managing schema migrations
• Professional experience with React
• Strong testing practices, including integration and fault-injection testing
• Experience using AI coding assistants in daily development workflows
• CI/CD pipeline creation and maintenance skills
• Full stack development understanding with ability to contribute to frontend work
• Background working with large, complex systems
• Ability to overlap with US business hours
• Bachelor's degree required
• Strong ownership mentality and accountability for deliverables
• Client-focused approach with dedication to team commitments
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with append-only, event-sourced, or bitemporal data models
• Experience with Fastify and schema-first validation (e.g., Zod)
• Experience running containerized services on AWS Fargate/ECS
• Experience in compliance-sensitive or audit-heavy domains (fintech, telecom/TCPA compliance)
