About This Opportunity

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a venture-backed infrastructure technology company operating across emerging markets. They're building API-first platform software that powers critical network operations, including billing systems, payment processing, subscriber management, and network authentication. Real revenue flows through their systems daily, and they're replacing legacy infrastructure with modern, scalable solutions.

We're searching for a founding-level engineer to take full ownership of mission-critical technical domains: payment pipelines, billing engines, and third-party integration layers. You'll work directly with senior leadership in a small, high-velocity team where you own entire systems, not tickets.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production payment systems handling collections, revenue distribution, and treasury operations
• Own the billing engine including subscription lifecycle management, cycle automation, and renewal workflows
• Develop integration layers that synchronize with partner billing systems and mobile payment providers
• Take specifications from concept through production deployment independently
• Work with event-driven architectures to ensure reliable, scalable financial transaction processing
• Design PostgreSQL schemas for financial data with appropriate isolation and locking patterns
• Implement payment gateway integrations including webhook handling, idempotency, and reconciliation

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years building backend systems that process real financial transactions (payments, billing, ledger, or treasury)
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and Node.js; able to architect NestJS microservices from the ground up
• Production experience integrating payment gateways such as M-Pesa, Stripe, Adyen, or similar platforms
• Strong understanding of payment flows including STK push, webhook signature verification, and callback handling
• Advanced PostgreSQL skills including schema design for financial systems, migrations, and transaction management
• Hands-on experience with event-driven systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging platforms
• Daily use of AI coding assistants (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) and ability to work effectively with AI-generated specifications
• Track record of shipping complete systems independently without needing granular task breakdown
• Comfort critically evaluating AI-assisted output and extending it where needed

Location: London. This role includes paid business travel as needed.
