Employee Platform Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential legal technology organization that is scaling rapidly across the UK and internationally. Our client is seeking an Employee Platform Engineer to join their Edinburgh office and build the internal infrastructure that powers their employee experience from day one through offboarding.

This is not a traditional IT support role. Our talent team is looking for someone who automates first, codes second, and treats internal systems as a product. If you solve repeated problems by building tools rather than doing tasks faster, this role offers genuine ownership over how an entire organization provisions, supports, and secures its workforce.

Responsibilities

• Build an automated joiner pipeline that reads new hire data from HRIS, provisions identity in SSO platforms, assigns application access by group rules, and triggers zero-touch laptop enrollment with no manual steps
• Develop a Slack-based assistant powered by coding agents that handles common requests like access provisioning or hardware troubleshooting, resolving most issues without human intervention
• Create a hardware vending system for the Edinburgh office that dispenses equipment against employee identity and automatically manages inventory replenishment
• Write infrastructure as code and automation scripts that configure devices, enforce security baselines, and generate compliance evidence
• Build an offboarding workflow that revokes all access, wipes and reclaims devices, and creates audit records automatically when someone leaves
• Own the end-to-end employee IT platform including identity, access management, device provisioning, and physical hardware in the office

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• You write production-quality code and automate using APIs and scripts (Python, Bash, or TypeScript required)
• You think in systems: identity flows, access controls, data pipelines, and lifecycle management
• You're comfortable leveraging AI coding agents to build and ship tooling quickly
• You prioritize security and proper implementation, not just speed
• You're willing to work on-site in Edinburgh and be hands-on with physical hardware
• You have the instinct to automate anything you do twice, building tools rather than performing repetitive tasks

Beneficial:

• Experience with identity and device management platforms such as Okta, Google Workspace, or Jamf
• Familiarity with SOC 2 or security compliance frameworks
• Background in automating onboarding, endpoint management, or internal tooling
• Experience as a software engineer, DevOps/SRE professional, platform engineer, or technical IT professional who codes

Success in the First Year:

• Within six months: zero-touch onboarding where new hires receive fully provisioned accounts and self-enrolling devices on day one
• Within nine months: self-service automation for the top twenty IT requests through chatbots, scripts, or physical systems
• Within twelve months: fully automated joiner/mover/leaver processes with same-day access revocation and hardware recovery
• Continuous delivery of internal tooling that scales the function through automation rather than headcount
• Security compliance evidence that generates automatically rather than being assembled manually
