About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential mid-market advisory organization in München that is building a leading platform through strategic acquisitions. Our client evaluates, acquires, and integrates professional services firms—and unlike traditional financial investors, their work begins at closing, not ends there.
This role sits at the intersection of valuation, transaction execution, and post-merger value creation. You'll build the financial models that drive acquisition decisions, then track whether your assumptions held true after integration. You'll work directly with executive leadership on live transactions and see the full lifecycle from initial assessment through operational reporting.
We are seeking candidates for two tracks: a 3–6 month internship for advanced students, or a full-time entry-level position for recent graduates. The scope is identical; the difference is horizon and autonomy.
Responsibilities
Valuation & Modeling
- Build and defend valuation models for acquisition targets—normalized earnings, adjustments, purchase price mechanics, sensitivities
- Normalize financial statements to reveal true earning power, including positions hidden in owner-managed structures
- Model the financing side: debt service, seller participation, payment structures over time
- Document every assumption so it can be individually challenged
Due Diligence & Decision Support
- Structure and execute financial and commercial due diligence—organize data rooms, flag issues, formulate open questions for negotiation
- Prepare executive decision papers: clear recommendations with supporting logic, not collections of metrics
- Contribute to letters of intent, negotiation materials, and shareholder documentation
Post-Closing Reporting & Value Creation
- Integrate acquired entities into consolidated reporting and make performance visible against original assumptions
- Build analytics that compare profitability, utilization, and client development across all locations
- Feed learnings from integration performance back into valuation models for future transactions
What We're Looking For
Education & Background
- Completed or advanced bachelor's/master's in economics, finance, business engineering, business law, or comparable field
- Serious engagement with valuation, accounting, or corporate finance—through coursework, internships, or self-directed learning
- Initial experience in M&A, transaction services, corporate finance, private equity, or tax advisory preferred
- Non-traditional profiles with valuation depth welcomed: tax professionals in continuing education who understand financial statements; mathematics or physics students with corporate finance interest; entrepreneurs who have built or sold businesses
Technical Skills
- Build financial models a third party can understand and extend—if only the author can operate it, it's not a deliverable
- Read financial statements and identify what requires explanation, not just calculate ratios
- Write analyses with clear recommendations; leaving the decision to the reader means the work is incomplete
- Work with AI as a standard tool for research, data room preparation, drafting, and pattern recognition in operational data
- Make assumptions explicit when given open-ended assignments, propose a direction, adjust as you proceed
Mindset
- Treat confidential information with absolute discretion—in live transactions you'll know things no one else can, even internally
- Genuine interest in the business behind the numbers; these are founder life's works, not just valuation objects
- Humility to learn from practitioners—experienced professionals know things no model contains
- Personal standard of excellence in every deliverable, driven by internal quality bar rather than external oversight
Language
- German fluency required for client interaction and documentation
