This position is based in Magdeburg with occasional travel to Hamburg and partner sites.
Responsibilities
- Develop the complete delivery system including catheter components, stent elements, and deployment mechanisms from initial concept through functional prototype
- Design and dimension individual components, evaluate material and joining concepts, and translate design decisions into robust engineering specifications
- Conceive, design, and build test stands and fixtures required for verification and validation activities, selecting appropriate testing methodologies
- Execute mechanical and functional testing, analyze results, and document findings in compliance with Design Control requirements and technical documentation standards
- Coordinate closely with external development and manufacturing partners, translating requirements into clear specifications and supporting implementation through acceptance
- Collaborate directly with founders and regulatory/quality functions, contributing technical perspective to product decisions

- Completed degree in Mechanical Engineering, Medical Technology, Materials Engineering, or comparable qualification
- Professional experience in medical device development with direct responsibility for components or assemblies
- Strong competency in mechanical design, CAD systems, and engineering analysis of mechanical systems
- Experience building test stands or planning and executing mechanical testing according to standards
- Fluent German and English (written and spoken) for international partner collaboration
- Willingness to travel occasionally to the Hamburg location and partner sites
Highly valued experience:
- Class III implantable medical devices, particularly endovascular systems, catheters, or delivery mechanisms
- Knowledge of relevant standards such as ISO 25539-1 and ISO 7198 for endovascular prostheses
- Experience with Nitinol or other shape-memory alloys, as well as textile materials
- Familiarity with Design Controls, risk management, and verification/validation logic in medical technology
- Experience collaborating with external development partners and contract manufacturers
