Engineering Manager (m/w/d)

We are representing a leading SaaS organization in the insurance technology sector, seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join their team in München. Our client is driving digital transformation in their industry and offers a hybrid work environment with significant growth potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide both technical and people leadership to software engineering teams, supporting their professional and personal development
• Ensure engineering activities align with company vision and strategic product objectives
• Own technical initiatives from conception through production deployment, including technical planning, architecture, quality assurance, and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize technical items in the product backlog and maintain transparency around dependencies, risks, and required investments
• Make informed technical decisions, review solution approaches, and ensure adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements
• Partner closely with Product, Operations, Customer-facing teams, and stakeholders to connect technical capabilities with business requirements
• Continuously evolve engineering processes, knowledge management formats, and standards
• Support long-term platform development and modernization with focus on stability, performance, maintainability, and scalability
• Guide projects and products through to production and ensure reliable ongoing operations alongside teams

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience in software development and software architecture with ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
• Extensive Java development experience, ideally with deep expertise in Spring Framework (particularly Spring Boot) and common Java libraries and standards
• Ability to quickly understand large, complex codebases, recognize cross-cutting concerns, and derive sound architectural decisions
• Excellent understanding of software architecture, design patterns, clean code principles, and modern engineering practices
• Strategic thinking with capability to develop and execute long-term plans for evolving, modernizing, and incrementally improving legacy systems
• Enthusiasm for analyzing, refactoring, and sustainably improving existing systems while maintaining stability and performance
• Knowledge of databases, APIs, and the full software development lifecycle from technical design through implementation to operations
• Experience in both technical and people leadership, including coaching and developing software engineers
• Ability to structure and prioritize technical projects and successfully deliver them with various stakeholders
• Active promotion of AI usage—from AI-assisted software development and automated quality assurance to optimizing development workflows
• Confident communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Management, and external partners
• Comfort working in agile environments, constructive approach to change, and active contribution to continuous process improvement
• Experience with JavaScript frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React) is a plus
• Strong sense for business context and commercial priorities alongside technical understanding
• Fluent German and English communication skills (written and spoken)
