About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential insurtech platform in München. This Engineering Manager role offers the opportunity to lead software engineering teams while driving technical excellence and architectural decisions in a rapidly evolving digital insurance environment.
We're seeking an experienced engineering leader who can provide both disciplinary and technical leadership to software engineers, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide disciplinary and technical leadership to Software Engineers, supporting their personal and professional development
- Ensure engineering activities align with company vision and strategic product goals
- Own technical initiatives from concept through production, including technical planning, architecture, quality assurance, and ongoing development
- Prioritise technical topics in the product backlog alongside Product Owners, creating transparency around dependencies, risks, and necessary investments
- Make well-informed technical decisions, review proposed solutions, and ensure compliance with engineering standards and quality requirements
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, customer-facing teams, and stakeholders to connect technical opportunities with business requirements
- Continuously develop engineering processes, knowledge management practices, and standards
- Support long-term platform development and modernisation with focus on stability, performance, maintainability, and scalability
- Accompany projects through to production and ensure reliable day-to-day operations
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience in software development and software architecture with ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences
- Substantial experience developing with Java, ideally with in-depth expertise in Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot, as well as common Java libraries and standards
- Ability to quickly familiarise yourself with large, complex codebases and derive well-founded architectural decisions
- Excellent understanding of software architecture, design patterns, clean code, and modern engineering principles
- Strategic thinking with ability to develop and implement long-term plans for continued development and modernisation of established systems
- Proven ability to analyse, refactor, and sustainably improve existing systems while maintaining stability and performance
- Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and the entire software development lifecycle
- Experience in both technical and disciplinary leadership, as well as coaching and developing Software Engineers
- Ability to structure and prioritise technical projects and deliver them successfully with various stakeholders
- Active driver of AI adoption in software development, quality assurance, and process optimisation
- Confident communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Management, and external partners
- Comfort working in an agile environment with constructive response to change
- Experience with JavaScript frontend frameworks such as Vue.js or React is a plus
- Strong technical expertise combined with good understanding of business contexts and entrepreneurial priorities
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken; proficiency in German is a plus
