We are representing a confidential enterprise AI organization in their search for a Director, Forward Deployed Engineering based in London. Our client sits at the forefront of GenAI adoption within Fortune 500 organizations, and this role leads the engineering team that embeds directly with their largest strategic accounts to deliver production-ready AI systems.

As Director, you will own end-to-end delivery for the most complex enterprise deployments—leading a team of elite engineers who build deeply integrated AI agents, backend services, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure. You'll work at the intersection of customer success and platform development, translating field lessons into reusable capabilities that accelerate future engagements.

This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role requiring a founder mindset. You'll scale a world-class team, maintain technical oversight across the full stack, and shape how AI adoption happens inside global enterprises.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery execution for the largest and most strategic enterprise accounts, scoping engagements, sequencing work, and making sharp trade-offs to drive production adoption
• Lead, hire, and develop a world-class Forward Deployed Engineering team—setting technical standards, building career frameworks, and scaling the organization without losing intensity
• Maintain deep technical oversight across agents, models, evaluations, backend services (Python/TypeScript), data systems, and cloud infrastructure to review architectures and raise quality bars
• Partner closely with Product, Platform, and core Engineering teams to codify repeatable patterns from field engagements into reusable platform capabilities and playbooks
• Engage directly with senior customer stakeholders at Fortune 500 organizations, translating ambiguous business problems into concrete technical roadmaps with measurable outcomes
• Enforce production excellence standards for reliability, security, observability, and evaluation across all deployed systems
• Drive the feedback loop from field insights into Product and Research priorities, influencing model choices, platform features, and roadmap direction
• Operate with urgency and sound judgment in ambiguous, high-pressure environments

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering or technical delivery experience, including 3+ years leading customer-facing engineering teams (Forward Deployed, Solutions Engineering, Applied AI, or similar)
• Strong engineering foundation with hands-on experience leading technical projects from prototype to production—comfortable whiteboarding architectures, reviewing code, and debugging production issues
• Proven ability to scale delivery teams, including building hiring bars, onboarding programs, and operating standards for technical organizations
• Hands-on fluency with the full AI stack: LLMs and agent systems, evaluation frameworks, backend and API design (Python or TypeScript), data systems (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) including Kubernetes, Docker, and IaC tooling
• Experience deploying AI into complex enterprise environments, navigating security reviews, identity/SSO, data residency, legacy integrations, and compliance requirements
• Track record of turning field work into product leverage—codifying customer engagement patterns into tools, libraries, or platform features that scale across deployments
• Strong cross-functional leadership experience aligning Sales, Product, Engineering, Research, and Customer Success around shared goals
• Founder mindset: high autonomy, high ownership, comfortable with ambiguity, bias toward action, and strong judgment on when to ship versus when to raise the bar
• Exceptional communication skills—able to translate technical tradeoffs for executive and non-technical audiences
