Director, Data Governance (REMOTE, WA)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential data resilience technology company in their search for a Director, Data Governance to lead execution of an AI-ready governance framework. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role for someone who builds first and meets second.

Our client has defined their governance strategy: a federated model with central standards, distributed ownership, and continuous agent-driven quality scoring. Your job is to make it real. You'll run the technical catalog backbone and business-facing layer, build certified data pipelines domain by domain, and turn governance into a standing rhythm rather than a compliance exercise.

This role demands curiosity by default. You'll use AI agents daily to draft lineage maps, prioritize ambiguous problems, and accelerate delivery. The pace of AI tooling means your build sequence will shift constantly. What won't shift: certified data, live trust scores, and named accountability at every layer.

Responsibilities

• Operate enterprise data catalog infrastructure (Unity Catalog and business-facing catalog layer) as the backbone of domain-by-domain certification
• Stand up continuous, agent-driven scoring behind certified data assets with automated action triggers that persist after initial sign-off
• Own executive intelligence reporting that delivers current, evidence-based answers on data trust levels across the organization
• Register and govern AI agents consuming enterprise data; use agentic tools yourself as core working instruments
• Align distributed domain owners across Sales, Marketing, Finance, and HR on unified governance standards and certification processes
• Build and maintain Bronze-to-Silver-to-Gold certified pipelines with documented lineage and quality metrics
• Shape organizational direction through the standards you set and the outcomes you deliver as an individual contributor

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Science, Information Systems, quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of experience in enterprise data governance, data management, or go-to-market data operations
• Demonstrated track record driving end-to-end data and AI governance programs in production: setting standards, securing distributed adoption, and holding outcome accountability
• Hands-on experience operating enterprise data governance with Databricks Unity Catalog and business-facing catalog platforms, including full metric certification workflows
• Daily use of Claude, Claude Code, or comparable AI agents as core working tools, plus ability to establish usage guardrails for teams
• Proven ability to influence senior leadership and shape organizational decisions as an individual contributor without positional authority

Bonus qualifications:

• Direct experience with CRM extension platforms in Sales Operations or Revenue Intelligence contexts
• Change management experience moving organizations from resistance to adoption through structured engagement
• Depth in AI asset governance including model registration, service governance, and agentic system access control
• Experience with Microsoft Purview for sensitivity classification in Azure and Microsoft 365 environments
• SOC 2 Type II audit experience, particularly data processing integrity and access control evidence
• Background in private equity-backed or pre-IPO technology companies navigating rapid growth
• Experience with data mesh, data product operating models, or MDM for entity resolution
• External contributions in data platform, governance, or AI infrastructure; familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK frameworks
