Director, Assistant General Counsel – Enterprise Risk Management, Litigation

3M is recruiting an experienced Director and Assistant General Counsel to lead enterprise risk management and litigation initiatives at our Maplewood headquarters in Ramsey County, Minnesota. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to shape legal strategy and drive risk mitigation across a global organization with operations worldwide.

About the Role

As Director and Assistant General Counsel for Enterprise Risk Management and Litigation, you'll hold a leadership position overseeing complex legal matters and proactive risk management strategies. You'll work directly with senior executives and cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and enterprise risks facing 3M globally.

What You'll Do

• Direct enterprise risk management strategy, implementation, and compliance initiatives across the organization
• Lead litigation strategy and oversee defense in complex disputes and civil matters
• Develop and enforce policies and frameworks addressing evolving legal and regulatory risks
• Supervise and mentor legal team members within your practice areas
• Advise C-suite and board-level stakeholders on risk exposure and mitigation approaches
• Collaborate with compliance, insurance, and internal audit functions on enterprise risk assessments
• Monitor regulatory changes and industry trends affecting risk and litigation exposure
• Contribute to broader legal and governance initiatives across the company

What We're Looking For

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar license in good standing
• 15+ years of progressive legal experience, with substantial work in enterprise risk management and/or complex litigation
• Demonstrated success leading and managing legal teams and high-stakes matters
• Deep knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory compliance frameworks, and risk management principles
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment across global teams and business units
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving orientation
