About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing energy technology company in München that is building the data infrastructure behind Europe's energy transition. Our client operates at the intersection of industrial systems, real-time data processing, and applied data science.

As a Data Engineer, you will own the data backbone that powers their product. Meter readings flow in from industrial sites across Europe—through APIs, messaging systems, and direct integrations. Your responsibility is to bring that data in clean, structured, and ready to drive dashboards, insights, and forecasting models that customers depend on daily.

You'll join a lean engineering team of 12 split into two squads. Small team, real ownership, fast shipping cycles—weeks, not quarters.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain meter data integrations connecting industrial hardware and utility data streams into real-time dashboards
  • Normalize incoming data from diverse sites into consistent, reliable structures that the product can trust
  • Develop anomaly detection and insight generation: identify consumption patterns, equipment drift, unexpected machine activity, and other actionable signals
  • Design and run scalable data pipelines handling high-volume time-series data with attention to quality, backfills, and handling late or duplicated readings
  • Support the engineering organization with robust cloud data infrastructure and workflows
  • Monitor, debug, and maintain what you build in production

What We're Looking For

Must have:

  • 3–5 years in data engineering, building pipelines that other teams and customers rely on
  • Hands-on data science experience: you've built and evaluated models, can distinguish signal from noise, and understand what production pipelines owe to models running downstream
  • Strong Python and SQL skills; experience designing and running pipelines, APIs, and workflows in cloud environments
  • Comfort working with high-volume time-series data: ingestion, quality assurance, handling late/missing/duplicated records
  • End-to-end thinking—your first instinct when facing a hard problem is to ask whether a change elsewhere in the system makes it easy, rather than solving the hard version immediately
  • Clear written and spoken English

Nice to have:

  • Background in energy, industrial systems, IoT, or other domains involving data from physical hardware
  • Experience with metering protocols, device telemetry at scale, or streaming data pipelines
  • Knowledge of a second language such as TypeScript or Kotlin
  • German language skills
  • Comfort owning production systems: monitoring, alerting, and occasional early-morning debugging
