Overview

We are representing a confidential benefits consulting organization in their search for a Benefits Consultant to join their fully remote team. This role owns the complete lifecycle of benefits and retirement plan administration for a portfolio of small and mid-sized employer clients. You'll balance strategic consulting with hands-on operational work — guiding plan design decisions while managing the day-to-day details of enrollment, carrier coordination, and compliance. We're looking for someone with brokerage or consulting firm experience who can navigate both boardroom conversations and billing reconciliations with equal confidence.

Responsibilities

You will manage health and welfare benefits administration across medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary benefits, FSA/HSA, and COBRA programs for multiple client groups. This includes leading annual open enrollment processes from strategy through post-enrollment audits, processing new hire enrollments and qualifying life events, reconciling carrier invoices, and maintaining plan documents and compliance notices.

On the retirement side, you'll administer 401(k) plans including enrollments, contribution changes, loans, distributions, and rollovers. You'll coordinate payroll-to-recordkeeper data flows, reconcile contributions across platforms like Guideline, Paycom, Gusto, and Paylocity, and support plan audits, year-end compliance testing, and Form 5500 filings. You'll also partner with plan advisors and recordkeepers on plan design updates and fiduciary practices.

Compliance and risk management are central to this position. You'll maintain working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS Section 125, and state-specific requirements, manage required reporting including 1094/1095 and Medicare Part D notices, and identify compliance risks requiring escalation.

As the primary benefits contact for your assigned accounts, you'll manage vendor relationships with carriers, brokers, TPAs, and recordkeepers. You'll support renewals and RFPs, analyze utilization and cost data, and deliver benefits communications and education sessions tailored to each client's workforce.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive benefits administration experience, with at least 2 years in a brokerage, benefits consulting firm, or HR outsourcing environment
  • Hands-on experience administering both health & welfare and 401(k) plans for small and mid-sized employers
  • Proven success in a client-facing, consulting, or multi-client support role
  • Working knowledge of major HRIS and payroll platforms such as Paycom, Gusto, Paylocity, or BambooHR
  • Familiarity with 401(k) recordkeeping platforms like Guideline, Vestwell, Empower, or Fidelity
  • Strong understanding of federal and multi-state benefits compliance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort presenting to employees and leadership
  • Prior experience working fully remotely
  • CEBS, GBA, RPA, PHR/SPHR, or SHRM certification preferred
  • Experience supporting multiple client accounts simultaneously preferred
