About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics organization that is bringing advanced manipulation technology to industrial environments. This is a critical role at the intersection of customer deployment and product development, where you'll be responsible for turning real-world use cases into working robotic applications and feeding field insights back into the engineering process.

As an Application Engineer, you'll work hands-on with robotic systems in both lab and customer environments, ensuring that sophisticated hardware performs reliably under production conditions. You'll report to technical leadership and collaborate closely with product, software, and electronics teams.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer applications on-site, understanding technical and operational constraints to derive specific, testable product requirements
  • Implement and optimize grasping and manipulation skills on real hardware, including parameterization, grasp strategies, task sequences, and error recovery
  • Design and execute application-level tests covering endurance, cycle testing, grasp success rates, robustness to variance, and reproducibility
  • Integrate advanced manipulation systems into humanoid and industrial robots, handling mechanical and electrical interfacing, commissioning, and task-level programming
  • Set up and operate teleoperation systems, record high-quality demonstrations for imitation learning, and support reinforcement-learning workflows including sim-to-real validation
  • Build reliable demonstrators for trade fairs, customer visits, and pilot projects that perform consistently under real-world conditions
  • Deploy applications from lab to production environments, addressing cycle times, safety, system interfaces, and integration with existing automation
  • Capture field findings, failure modes, and product limitations, translating them into concrete improvements for engineering teams
  • Document applications, integration procedures, and test results to support customers and partners during deployment

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • Degree in mechatronics, robotics, automation, mechanical or electrical engineering, or comparable qualification
  • 3–8 years of experience in robot applications, commissioning, systems integration, or automation engineering
  • Practical experience programming and commissioning industrial robots or cobots, with confidence working on live robotic cells
  • Strong Python skills; C++ is an advantage
  • Experience with ROS 2 and simulation environments such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo, or comparable platforms
  • Structured approach to testing with the ability to design tests that produce measurable, reproducible results
  • Hands-on mentality—comfortable building fixtures, wiring systems, commissioning hardware, and running tests independently
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites and trade fairs, approximately 20–30%
  • Fluent in English and German

Bonus qualifications:

  • Experience with grasping technology, end-of-arm tooling, or dexterous manipulation
  • Experience with teleoperation systems, motion capture, or VR-based robot control
  • Practical experience with imitation learning, behavior cloning, or reinforcement learning
  • Experience with humanoid or mobile manipulation platforms
  • Practical experience with machine vision and object detection in robotic applications
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and safety for collaborative applications, including the Machinery Regulation and ISO/TS 15066
