About the Role

As a Principal 3D Animator at Ubisoft's Montreal studio, you'll occupy a lead position in our animation department, driving creative excellence and technical innovation in a full-time capacity. Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Create, animate, and refine 3D character models, including rigging, skeletal animation, and motion-capture integration
  • Lead and mentor junior and mid-level animators, providing technical feedback and creative direction to elevate team output
  • Collaborate with game designers, programmers, and other artists to align animation with gameplay mechanics and visual direction
  • Establish and maintain animation standards, pipelines, and best practices across production
  • Troubleshoot technical animation challenges and optimize performance within game engines
  • Direct and refine motion-capture sessions, integrating captured data for seamless in-game implementation
  • Polish animations through iteration and playtesting feedback to achieve shipping quality

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional 3D animation experience in game development
  • Expert proficiency in industry-standard animation software such as Maya, MotionBuilder, 3DS Max, or Blender
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating advanced character animation, rigging, and motion-design work
  • Solid understanding of game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar) and animation implementation workflows
  • Deep knowledge of character rigging, skeletal animation, and motion-capture production pipelines
  • Proven leadership experience mentoring animation teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
  • Passion for games and track record of shipped AAA titles
