ABB is recruiting a Robotics Business Development Manager to accelerate growth in its Consumer Industries business segment across the Midwest United States. This full-time position is based in the greater Chicagoland region and reports to the Segment Manager for Consumer Industries USA.
What This Role Involves
As ABB's Robotics Business Development Manager for Consumer Industries, you'll lead expansion efforts to grow collaborative robotics adoption across warehousing, logistics, food and beverage, and consumer packaged goods environments throughout the Midwest. This role bridges technical expertise and commercial strategy, positioning you to influence how automation transforms manufacturing and supply chain operations in your territory. You'll develop opportunities among small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large manufacturers seeking to modernize their operations.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Identify growth opportunities with prospective customers including end-user manufacturers, solution integrators, equipment builders, and distribution partners; promote ABB's collaborative robotics solutions across warehousing, food processing, and logistics sectors.
- Work collaboratively with ABB's distribution channel and regional sales organization to assess opportunities, conduct technical evaluations, demonstrate product capabilities, and communicate business value to target customers.
- Coordinate with ABB's marketing function to design and execute focused marketing initiatives, organize regional events and online forums, and attend key industry conferences and trade expos to amplify market presence for ABB's robotics portfolio.
- Collect frontline market intelligence and customer needs, sharing findings with ABB's global product management and engineering leadership to inform product roadmap development.
- Track competitive positioning, monitor technological evolution, and stay current with industry developments in collaborative and industrial robotics across application segments.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Business, or closely related discipline, combined with a minimum of 5 years of professional background in sales, business development, industrial automation, or robotics; alternatively, an Associate's degree paired with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
- Substantial hands-on experience within food and beverage manufacturing, warehouse operations, logistics and distribution, and factory production environments.
- Demonstrated capability using Salesforce or comparable customer relationship management platforms to track pipeline activity and manage business opportunities.
- Demonstrated flexibility to travel across your assigned Midwest territory (including Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) up to 50 percent of working time.
- Preferred: Knowledge of collaborative robotic applications including pick-and-place, case packing, pallet handling, and autonomous mobile robotics solutions deployed in consumer-focused industries.
- Preferred: Technical grounding with capability to position value-based solutions effectively to both engineering teams and business-level stakeholders in manufacturing and operations.
