Senior Optical Packaging & Assembly Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential quantum computing organization seeking a Senior Optical Packaging & Assembly Engineer based in Daresbury. In this role, you will:

• Develop optical package designs and fibre-to-chip alignment schemes that enable high alignment accuracy and scalable assembly processes
• Help develop packaging prototypes and scalable fibre-to-chip packaging flows and processes for photonic integrated circuits
• Review packaging design bills of materials and collaborate with supply chain teams on procuring necessary assembly components
• Work with internal packaging teams and external vendors to transfer and scale packaging designs and processes based on successful prototypes
• Engage with external vendors and suppliers to source required materials and provide feedback on evolving technical requirements
• Partner with external collaborators to develop advanced opto-electronic packaging solutions

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:

• Master's Degree or above in Optical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent field
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in photonic integrated circuit packaging design and qualification
• 5+ years of experience working with optical fibers and conducting optical measurements
• 3+ years of experience with fiber array unit or optical connector to chip attachment processes
• Demonstrated experience with optical data analysis
