Senior Backend Engineer – Golang

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Backend Engineer - Golang to join their team in Düsseldorf, Germany. This is a greenfield opportunity within a newly formed squad focused on building critical infrastructure that powers merchant attribution, commission calculations, and lifecycle intelligence.

You'll be joining at the ground floor, helping establish architectural patterns, data models, and engineering standards for systems that automate previously manual sales operations workflows. This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, data infrastructure, and business-critical tooling used by sales teams and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Aggregate data across multiple systems to determine attribution for merchant acquisition channels and sales activities
• Design and implement data models, API contracts, and rule engines that automate commission workflows for field sales, tele-sales, partnerships, and referral programs
• Build a centralized Lifecycle Event Log storing curated merchant events (signups, product adoption, verification, purchases) used across attribution, recommendations, support, and sales
• Develop internal backoffice tools and APIs enabling sales representatives and leaders to monitor commissions, modify plans, manage portfolios, and resolve disputes
• Define and document API contracts, schemas, and integration patterns for adoption by other engineering teams
• Establish squad-level best practices for testing, observability, and incident response
• Leverage AI and agentic coding tools to scaffold services, generate tests, and draft documentation while maintaining accountability for production code

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend engineering experience in Go, or solid typed-language background with ability to ramp up quickly
• Proven experience designing APIs and distributed systems with clear contracts, versioning strategies, and integration patterns
• Fluency with relational and analytical databases (PostgreSQL, Snowflake) and ability to select appropriate data stores for different use cases
• Experience building Kafka-based event-driven systems and understanding of event sourcing and change data capture patterns
• Background in auditable, high-trust systems where decisions must be traceable (fintech, payments, or similar regulated domains strongly preferred)
• Track record building services from scratch in greenfield or early-stage squads with limited prior context
• Commitment to testing, observability, and incident response as first-class engineering concerns
• Resourcefulness and adaptability with end-to-end ownership mindset and comfort with shifting priorities
• Ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences, translating ambiguous problems into clear engineering work
• Pragmatic judgment knowing when "good enough" ships value versus when proper solutions are required
• Mentorship instincts and commitment to raising the bar for teammates
