Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential energy technology company seeking a Software Engineer to join their engineering community in Bristol, Edinburgh, or London. In this role, you will:

• Build and maintain backend services using modern technologies like TypeScript and Node.js
• Learn to work with event-driven systems and cloud platforms, particularly AWS
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to develop customer-facing features
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to grow your technical skills
• Contribute to the ongoing development of services and systems with support from your team
• Work with databases (SQL or NoSQL) to manage and retrieve data
• Take part in team discussions, stand-ups, and planning sessions to understand how software is built at scale
• Ask questions, seek feedback, and share what you're learning to support a positive team environment

What We're Looking For

Our client is looking for candidates who have:

• Hands-on experience writing backend code, ideally in TypeScript, or keen willingness to learn it
• Basic understanding of cloud technologies or strong interest in learning platforms like AWS
• Familiarity with databases and APIs, and a desire to build reliable software
• A collaborative and open mindset with excitement to learn from others and contribute to a team
• Curiosity for how things work and a proactive attitude toward improving your skills
• Passion for building technology that solves real problems for users
• Bonus: exposure to frontend development

Required: Existing right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Working arrangement: Hybrid role with 3 days per week in the office (Bristol, Edinburgh, or London).
