Our talent team is representing a confidential energy technology organization in their search for an experienced Software Engineering Manager. This hybrid role is based in Bristol, Edinburgh, or London, with an expectation of 3+ days per week in the office.

Important: This role requires an existing right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

• Manage engineering teams of up to 10 direct reports, contributing to both technical and product vision to ensure product success
• Nurture engineering talent through personal development, performance management, and alignment with product delivery objectives
• Guide technical discussions with big-picture context, though hands-on coding will be minimal
• Collaborate closely with clients alongside product managers and client success teams to deliver real value within their wider programmes
• Work with peers and team members to contribute to and drive the technical roadmap and strategy for your area
• Champion operational excellence and help your team achieve their full potential
• Remove impediments and unblock your team to meet product delivery objectives

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Experience in an Engineering Management or related role working with high-performing cross-functional teams
• Passion for growing and mentoring engineers
• Ability to develop and maintain strong, positive client relationships through active listening, transparent communication, and proactive problem-solving
• Fundamental understanding of Agile and lean development principles
• Excellent understanding of modern technologies, especially event-based systems such as Kafka
• Excellent communication skills and experience working with senior leaders across the business

What will set you apart:

• Background in client-facing roles such as solutions engineering or consulting, with proven ability to translate complex client needs into effective technical solutions
• Experience in domains such as billing and finance ledger tooling, payment systems integration, eCommerce platforms, or energy generation/supply
• Experience transforming software engineering teams through the use of AI, ML, and/or LLMs

Additional requirements: This is a global role requiring business travel, approximately 4-6 trips per year for commercial and deployment activities.
