About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking an AI Science Writer for their research academy. This is an ongoing contract position where you'll translate cutting-edge AI and machine learning research into accurate, engaging, and accessible content. You'll work at the intersection of scientific research, technical communication, and multimedia storytelling, reviewing new models, architectures, and papers to identify what is genuinely novel and important.

This role offers a fixed monthly retainer, flexibility, and potential opportunities for longer-term career growth. You'll engage directly with researchers, engineers, and scientific leaders to investigate ideas and verify technical claims, while also having opportunities to cover major conferences and experiment with AI-assisted editorial workflows.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate and engaging scientific and technical reviews covering new AI models, architectures, research papers, and emerging trends
• Analyze technical papers and research findings to identify meaningful innovations, understand methodologies, evaluate limitations, and communicate their significance
• Transform complex model architectures and technical concepts into clear visual narratives, including infographics, diagrams, charts, and multimedia elements
• Develop written content across multiple formats: analytical reports, long-form features, interviews, technical explainers, newsletters, webinar scripts, and social media content
• Interview researchers, engineers, founders, and scientific leaders to uncover insights and provide context
• Cover major AI research conferences, emerging fields, and significant developments across the AI ecosystem
• Host or moderate research webinars, interviews, and other on-camera or multimedia formats
• Work directly with researchers to fact-check and verify technical claims while maintaining a clear, engaging editorial voice
• Collaborate with designers and multimedia producers on complex visual and interactive stories
• Create visual assets independently using AI tools and other relevant technologies
• Experiment with AI models, agents, coding, and automation to improve research, editorial, analysis, and visual-production workflows

What We're Looking For

• Professional or academic experience in AI/ML research, machine learning engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
• Degree in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, physics, engineering, computational science, or another relevant technical field
• Strong ability to read and interpret scientific papers, inspect model architectures, compare experimental results, and discuss technical details with researchers
• Strong technical writing and editorial skills with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts accurately, clearly, and engagingly
• Strong visual communication instincts and ability to explain technical mechanisms through diagrams, infographics, and charts
• Ability to assess the significance and limitations of research rather than simply summarize findings
• Excellent interviewing and communication skills with confidence engaging technical experts
• Comfortable working across multiple content formats and adapting technical material for different audiences
• Familiarity with LLMs and AI-assisted content workflows, using these tools to enhance productivity while maintaining editorial judgement
• Curiosity about emerging developments in AI, machine learning, and scientific research
• Strong attention to accuracy, fact-checking, and technical detail
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and collaborate effectively
• Authorization to work in the UK
