Senior Data Scientist, Forecasting & Elasticity (m/f/x) Freelance

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential e-commerce organization in Berlin that is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for a freelance engagement focused on forecasting and price elasticity modeling. This is a strategic role at the intersection of data science and commercial decision-making, where your models will directly influence pricing strategy and business outcomes.

You will own the complete lifecycle of forecasting and elasticity models that power critical pricing decisions. This isn't about building predictions in isolation—your work will ship to production, drive measurable impact, and inform executive-level strategy. The organization is scaling rapidly and needs an experienced practitioner who can take existing models further while establishing best practices for experimentation and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end forecasting and price-elasticity models from research and feature engineering through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Scale forecasting architecture to support increasingly granular, product-level predictions across growing inventory
• Design, execute, and analyze pricing experiments and A/B tests, translating results into actionable strategic recommendations for senior leadership
• Conduct deep-dive commercial analyses examining pricing elasticity, customer behavior patterns, market dynamics, and competitive positioning
• Collaborate with stakeholders across commercial, marketing, product, and operations teams to identify opportunities and solve complex business challenges
• Establish best practices for analytics workflows, experimentation frameworks, commercial decision-making processes, and AI tool usage
• Automate reporting systems that maintain visibility into model performance and business impact

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of data science experience, ideally within e-commerce or marketplace environments, with a track record of solving real business problems
• Quantitative degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field
• Strong foundations in statistics, predictive modeling, and machine learning with hands-on expertise in Python and SQL
• Proven experience with time series forecasting, including modeling approaches, feature engineering, and evaluation methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to design and execute A/B tests and experiments with measurable business impact
• Self-starting mindset with ability to own a domain end-to-end; genuine interest in pricing, forecasting, and e-commerce dynamics
• Strong stakeholder management skills and comfort presenting to and influencing senior leadership
• Daily use of AI tools to accelerate work and expand capabilities (preferred)
• Knowledge of causal inference methods and advanced experimental design (preferred)
• Familiarity with data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI (preferred)
• Must be based in Germany, preferably Berlin
