Head of Accounting & Tax (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential mobility company in their search for a Head of Accounting & Tax based in Munich. This is a rare opportunity to own and transform the entire accounting function during a period of significant growth and systems transformation. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll lead the accounting team through an SAP implementation while establishing scalable, audit-proof processes across multiple European and North American entities.

This role offers genuine autonomy—you won't be stepping into a finished structure. Instead, you'll actively shape the accounting organization, introduce automation and AI-driven workflows, and build a finance function ready for the company's next phase of expansion.

Responsibilities

• Lead the complete accounting function and deliver reliable, timely, audit-proof monthly financial reporting across the group
• Oversee preparation of annual financial statements and group financial statements under German GAAP (HGB) alongside your accounting team
• Manage external service providers handling accounting, VAT, income tax, and local audit for international subsidiaries, ensuring quality and compliance
• Analyze new business transactions and determine proper accounting treatment
• Partner with external tax advisors to ensure tax compliance across German entities
• Build, develop, and structure the accounting team with clear ownership and dependable closing timelines
• Drive the company-wide SAP implementation from process design through testing, go-live, and stabilization
• Serve as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities; steer the annual audit process
• Establish a scalable, data-driven accounting function incorporating automation, digitalization, and high-quality financial data standards

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 10 years of relevant accounting experience with demonstrated responsibility for group financial statements under German GAAP (HGB)
• Proven leadership of accounting teams in dynamic environments
• Strong accounting qualification—degree in finance/accounting or comparable certification
• Solid understanding of German tax law
• Hands-on experience with SAP and finance transformation projects; SAP implementation or migration experience from an accounting perspective strongly preferred
• Structured, hands-on leadership style with ability to build scalable processes during periods of change
• Curiosity about automation, AI-supported finance workflows, and data-driven process improvements
• Detail-oriented with a positive, solution-focused mindset and ability to lead by example
• Fluent in both English and German
