AI Governance & Regulatory Risk Expert* (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential financial services consulting organization seeking an AI Governance & Regulatory Risk Expert to support leading banks and financial institutions in establishing trustworthy, compliant, and responsibly deployed AI systems.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of regulation, technology, and risk management, ensuring AI initiatives meet regulatory, ethical, security, and operational requirements—particularly within the evolving European regulatory framework, including the EU AI Act and GDPR.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Conducting AI risk assessments across the entire model and system lifecycle—from development and validation through deployment to monitoring—utilizing appropriate AI-supported analysis and automation capabilities
• Supporting clients in implementing regulatory requirements from the EU AI Act, GDPR, and relevant financial services regulations, developing compliance-by-design and governance-by-design approaches
• Advising on explainability, transparency, fairness, robustness, and security of AI systems while supporting AI risk profiling, control design, and documentation standards
• Developing AI governance policies, model documentation, and auditable frameworks with clear guardrails, review processes, audit trails, and escalation pathways
• Collaborating closely with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Data Protection, and IT Security teams while advising senior stakeholders on AI risks and appropriate mitigation measures

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in AI Risk, AI Governance, Model Risk Management, or Regulatory Compliance, ideally within regulated banking or financial services environments
• Strong understanding of AI governance frameworks and current and evolving regulatory requirements, particularly within the European context
• Experience translating regulatory requirements into practical operational and technical controls, including AI Assurance, Model Validation, and audit processes
• Structured, analytical, and solution-oriented working approach with interest in responsibly utilizing approved AI tools and AI-enabled workflows to improve quality, speed, and insight generation
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with fluent German and English proficiency

Nice to have:

• Experience with practical implementation of the EU AI Act or comparable AI governance and responsible AI frameworks
• Experience with governance and control models for Generative AI or Agentic AI within regulated organizations
• Knowledge in designing AI control frameworks, risk taxonomies, or AI risk assessments
• Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, Data Protection, Model Risk, or IT Security in complex transformation programs
• Experience with human-in-the-loop approaches, AI assurance, guardrails, and traceable review and escalation processes
