We are representing a confidential AI technology organization seeking an Applied AI, Forward Deployed Machine Learning Engineer based in Munich. This position sits at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and real-world enterprise applications. You'll work as a customer-facing technical expert, helping deploy production AI solutions that deliver measurable business impact. The role combines deep ML expertise with strong client engagement skills—think of it as operating like a startup CTO who owns end-to-end project execution.

Responsibilities

• Deploy production AI use cases with considerable business impact across various industries
• Build state-of-the-art generative AI applications from consumer products to industrial implementations
• Collaborate with research teams and product engineers on complex customer projects involving advanced fine-tuning and LLM applications
• Contribute to open-source codebases for tasks such as inference and fine-tuning
• Participate in pre-sales calls to understand client needs, challenges, and aspirations
• Provide technical guidance and explain AI technologies to various stakeholders
• Work with product and science teams to continuously improve capabilities based on customer feedback

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Fluent in English
• 2+ years as a technical individual contributor (data scientist or software engineer) on AI-based products
• Proven experience implementing AI or machine learning products with APIs, back-end and front-end interfaces
• Experience fine-tuning LLMs and tackling advanced RAG or agentic use cases
• Deep understanding of concepts and algorithms underlying machine learning and LLMs
• Strong technical coding skills in Python
• Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Ideal additional experience:

• Contributions to open-source projects, particularly in the LLM space
• Experience as a Customer Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Product Manager
• Experience with deep learning using PyTorch
