About This Opportunity

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential robotics organization building advanced autonomous systems. They need a hands-on field engineer who can work across the full technical stack—from hardware integration and sensor calibration to autonomy software and real-world deployment. This role sits at the critical junction between engineering and field operations, ensuring complex UAV systems perform reliably in actual operating conditions.

The position is based at an undisclosed test site approximately 35km from Munich, with regular travel across Europe for field tests, partner demonstrations, and deployment support.

Responsibilities

You will own the integration, testing, and field readiness of autonomous UAV systems:

  • Debug complex multi-variable problems across hardware, software, sensors, networking, and autonomy layers—separating symptoms from root causes and driving lasting solutions
  • Integrate UAVs, payloads, onboard compute, cameras, IMUs, radios, ground stations, and operator interfaces into field-ready systems
  • Configure and validate perception stack behavior, mission logic, autonomy responses, and system performance under real operating conditions
  • Define and execute acceptance tests for platforms, payloads, software releases, and deployment configurations
  • Build tooling, automation, and intelligent debugging workflows to accelerate system understanding and improve field readiness
  • Install, configure, maintain, and support systems at test ranges, customer sites, partner demonstrations, and operational deployments
  • Demonstrate systems to partners and end users, support training, and translate field feedback into engineering requirements
  • Identify design flaws, integration gaps, recurring failures, and process bottlenecks—turning field evidence into better products and procedures

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

  • B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD, technical apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent in Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Hands-on experience integrating, testing, operating, or troubleshooting complex robotic, UAV, embedded, automotive, industrial automation, or defence systems
  • Comfort moving between hardware and software: Linux systems, sensors, radios, flight controllers, payloads, power systems, mechanical interfaces, networking, and operator tools
  • Ability to read logs, inspect telemetry, use command line, run scripts, flash devices, debug configurations, trace network issues, and communicate findings clearly
  • Experience working directly with partners, operators, and end users—explaining technical problems clearly and building trust
  • Willingness to travel regularly for field tests, demonstrations, and deployments across Europe
  • Fluent English; German is a strong plus
  • Valid driving license
  • Eligibility to work on defence-related projects and obtain relevant security clearance where required

Highly valued experience includes:

  • ROS2, Docker, Linux, edge compute devices, C++/Python, Bash, Git, or deployment automation
  • UAV platforms, PX4, ArduPilot, QGroundControl, Mission Planner, MAVLink, flight logs, and mission planning
  • Networking and radio systems: WiFi, LTE/5G modems, VPNs, telemetry links, antenna placement, RF interference, and field connectivity debugging
  • Hands-on hardware skills: soldering, crimping, harness repair, using multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or serial consoles
  • Perception or autonomy systems: localization, camera/IMU calibration, sensor synchronization, object detection, mapping, or navigation
  • Environmental testing: vibration, thermal, ingress protection, EMI/EMC, or MIL-STD qualification workflows
  • Creating acceptance tests, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, fleet dashboards, or field-support processes
