About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded fintech organization in Berlin that is scaling rapidly through its Series B stage. Our client operates in the private markets infrastructure space and has recently closed significant funding while pursuing an active acquisition strategy across multiple entities and geographies. They need a senior finance leader to rebuild and architect their finance function from the ground up—taking it from startup-scale operations to exit-ready infrastructure.

This is a true Head of Finance role where you will be the most senior finance hire, reporting to the General Counsel and working directly with founders and the management team. You will own capital management, forecasting, budgeting, investor reporting, M&A finance, and ERP implementation at a critical inflection point in the company's growth.

Responsibilities

You will own the complete finance function at this high-growth organization, including:

• End-to-end ownership of budgeting cycles (top-down and bottom-up), working with founders and department heads, running monthly variance reviews, quarterly budget control processes, and translating business strategy into financial plans with clear KPIs
• Building and maintaining robust cash forecasting models with regular management updates on burn rate and runway
• Preparing monthly and quarterly board updates, presenting financial performance to investors, and managing investor communications on KPIs and progress
• Establishing Series C/D-grade analytical foundations including unit economics, cohort analyses, profitability modeling, and centralizing Finance as the single source of truth for financial and operational KPIs
• Leading all financial aspects of equity rounds—modeling, due diligence management, and investor responses—with an immediate focus on Series C readiness
• Managing financial due diligence on acquisitions, building M&A models, supporting target selection, and owning Finance's role in post-merger integration
• Developing and managing banking relationships across Germany and Europe, managing liquidity optimization strategies, establishing treasury policies, and developing currency risk mitigation strategies
• Scoping and leading ERP system implementation across the group
• Managing non-dilutive funding disbursements and leading future grant and funding applications
• Leading audits, coordinating with external tax advisors and accountants, and acting as primary liaison for all external bookkeeping, accounting, and tax advisory relationships
• Building the finance team over time and driving process optimization and automation

What We're Looking For

• 6+ years of progressive finance experience in an in-house role (ideally SaaS or VC-backed), private equity, reputable management/financial consultancy, or investment banking
• At least 3+ years in a finance leadership role
• Proven experience with VC-backed financing rounds post-Series B
• Track record of building robust financial models from scratch and comfort with multi-entity and multi-currency structures
• Familiarity with accounting, billing, and spend management tools (DATEV, Stripe, Moss, Spendesk) as well as ERP systems (NetSuite or similar)
• Proven ownership of forecasting and budgeting cycles—not just supporting them
• Hands-on approach with the ability to build from scratch, combined with strategic thinking as the role grows to VP level
• Excellent technical expertise combined with commercial flexibility and executive presence to be a strategic finance partner for management and represent the company to investors and external partners
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear narratives for non-finance stakeholders
• High levels of proactivity and solution-orientation
• Comfort operating with ambiguity and building processes where few or none exist
• Fluent English required; B2/C1+ German strongly preferred
• Fund industry or fintech experience is a plus but not required
