Director of IT, Security & Infrastructure (d/f/m)

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in Berlin that is building something genuinely transformative: a fully agentic infrastructure layer that will serve as the foundation for how every team operates. This is not a traditional IT leadership role focused on keeping systems running. This is an opportunity to build a platform function from the ground up—one that enables hybrid human-agent teams to move with speed, security, and confidence.

As Director of IT, Security & Infrastructure, you will report to the Chief People Officer and work closely with Systems Engineers and cross-functional partners across Engineering, Legal, Finance, and People Operations. You'll define the infrastructure and security foundation that supports our client's agentic ambitions and sets the standard for how the entire organization operates.

This role comes with real authority and real accountability. You'll make decisions that shape the security posture for years to come and build the infrastructure layer that enables the future of work at this organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the vision and roadmap for internal infrastructure and tooling, driving the transition from IT as a ticket-resolving function to an internal platform product that enables teams to move faster and more securely
• Lead and develop the IT team including helpdesk, systems engineering, and incoming Security & Platform Engineer roles, ensuring clear ownership, structured growth paths, and high-performing team culture through significant structural change
• Own all core IT operations: device management (MDM), identity and access management, workplace technology, SaaS tooling, third-party network provider relationships, and hardware provisioning while maintaining reliability, controlling costs, and progressively raising service quality standards
• Set the security strategy and posture for systems and agent ecosystem, embedding security continuously into platform infrastructure rather than applying it as an end-stage gate
• Work closely with Systems Engineers and the agentic framework team to build and document the agentic platform layer including secure sandboxes, credential vaults, and CI/CD pipelines
• Own IT-specific risk management, compliance controls, and audit readiness across internal systems and infrastructure, partnering with Legal, Compliance, and enterprise risk owners on GDPR/DSGVO, SOC 2, and applicable financial regulatory requirements
• Manage supplier relationships and lead build/buy/partner evaluations, making long-term recommendations grounded in technical and business considerations
• Serve as the business-facing voice for IT in leadership conversations, translating infrastructure and security decisions into clear business terms
• Define and track platform health metrics, service quality, and internal adoption including establishing internal NPS for IT services, driving measurable reductions in ticket volume and mean time to resolution

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading an IT or infrastructure function at a scale-up or regulated tech company, including ownership of core IT operations such as helpdesk, MDM, identity management, and workplace technology
• Demonstrated ability to build a platform mindset in a team that has historically operated as a support function, understanding what that shift requires culturally, structurally, and in terms of success measurement
• Strong technical depth to have credible, substantive conversations with engineers—you can interrogate technical decisions, ask the right questions, and know when to push back
• Security-literate with hands-on experience setting security strategy: understanding of threat landscape, navigation of compliance and audit obligations in regulated environments, and knowledge of good security posture at both infrastructure and application layers
• Experience with agentic or AI infrastructure, or genuine curiosity and a track record of fast learning in emerging technical domains
• Experience managing vendors and external partners, including evaluating and making build/buy/outsource decisions
• Familiarity with compliance and data obligations in regulated environments (financial services, tax, or similar) and ability to translate those obligations into practical infrastructure and process decisions
• Comfort with ambiguity and energy for shaping a function being designed in real time—you don't wait for a playbook; you help write it
• Commitment to growing people around you: seeing early-career team members and ambitious engineers as people to invest in
• Ego-light approach: comfortable with invisible success where teams don't notice IT because everything works, and willing to tell leadership when requests aren't feasible with clear explanations
