Senior People Operations & Payroll Manager (f/m/x)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential electric mobility organization with operations across multiple European markets. This Senior People Operations & Payroll Manager position is a hands-on role where you'll ensure payroll accuracy and timeliness across a multi-country structure.

You will:

• Own the monthly payroll process across countries, including preparatory payroll accounting, inputs, handovers and sign-off with external payroll providers
• Maintain employee master data in HRIS systems with accuracy, compliance and audit-readiness
• Manage core lifecycle processes including onboarding, leave administration, offboarding, work time accounts and employment certificates
• Serve as primary contact for payroll providers, tax advisors and auditors, resolving issues quickly and professionally
• Identify friction in processes, systems and workflows, implementing fixes through automation and exploring AI solutions where valuable
• Support alignment of employee benefits across countries while respecting local requirements
• Partner closely with People Partners and Finance teams to ensure payroll, reporting and HR processes integrate seamlessly
• Respond to employee questions on compensation and HR administration with clarity and discretion
• Guide or mentor junior team members, own larger process and system projects, and act as sparring partner to People leadership

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in payroll and People/HR Operations, ideally including German payroll
• Proven experience coordinating payroll across multiple countries and working with external payroll providers
• Strong knowledge of relevant labor law, tax and social security requirements, with willingness to learn new jurisdictions
• Hands-on experience with Deel and Personio is a strong advantage
• Structured, reliable and discreet working style with excellent attention to detail and deadline management
• Pragmatic, improvement-minded approach focused on clean processes without unnecessary bureaucracy
• Curiosity about systems, automation and AI to enhance workflow efficiency
• Fluent English and German required; additional European language is a bonus
• Demonstrated ownership of multi-country payroll and experience leading process or system improvements or guiding team members
