PhD AI Internship – 6 or 12 months

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology consultancy seeking a PhD AI Intern for a 6- to 12-month placement with a flexible start date. This role is open to PhD and Masters students who have completed their first year of study.

In this position, you will work alongside experienced engineers building AI systems and developing your skills through hands-on implementation. Your responsibilities will include:

• Building AI systems through hands-on coding, model training, and testing
• Supporting client projects to solve real-world problems across diverse industries
• Learning software development practices in mixed-discipline teams, attending stand-ups and contributing to planning sessions
• Contributing to internal research and development programs, building on state-of-the-art AI literature to produce market-leading solutions
• Communicating the results of your work to colleagues and clients
• Engaging in modelling, data-wrangling, and testing tasks using cutting-edge computing resources

What We're Looking For

Our client requires candidates with a degree in a relevant subject such as AI/machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics, or theoretical physics, and currently studying towards a relevant PhD or Master's degree.

Essential qualifications:

• Interest in applying AI and algorithmic techniques to real-world problems
• Strong Python programming skills
• Understanding of modern version control (e.g. Git)
• Demonstrable research experience in a data-driven field (such as project work, conference proceedings, journal publications)
• Ability to obtain Security Check level security clearance and work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law

• Information science, Bayesian statistics
• Signal processing
• Bioinformatics
• Reinforcement learning
• Transformer and diffusion models
• Robotics (including VLA models)
• Edge compute
