About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential government technology contractor seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join their product engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers to grow at the intersection of product development and technical execution while supporting mission-critical defense systems.
Important: This position requires U.S. citizenship due to the nature of the work supporting U.S. government operations.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Build, ship, and maintain well-scoped features, fixes, and improvements for mission-critical environments
- Contribute to implementation plans and technical discussions with support from senior teammates
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and design to translate requirements into working software
- Debug issues, improve system reliability, and learn production support practices
- Help integrate with existing defense systems while learning interoperability and security expectations
- Contribute to open source projects and internal tooling through scoped issues, fixes, and documentation
- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation including implementation notes, runbooks, and user guides
- Participate in production support and shared on-call practices with guidance from experienced engineers
- Work across a portfolio of platforms focused on data management, distributed systems, developer tooling, and continuous software delivery for disconnected and airgapped environments
As you grow in this role, you will take on larger feature ownership, contribute to cross-functional initiatives, and strengthen your engineering practices through code review, testing, and continuous learning.
What We're Looking For
- 1-3 years of software engineering experience
- Working knowledge of Go or another modern programming language
- Foundational understanding of software design, APIs, databases, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Exposure to tools or projects focused on software lifecycle and delivery
- Familiarity with or interest in learning Kubernetes concepts (Controllers, Operators, CRDs)
- Familiarity with or interest in learning supply chain security concepts (SBOMs, signing, scanning, etc.)
- Ability to break down problems, learn quickly, and deliver pragmatic solutions with team support
- Clear communication and collaboration skills, with comfort asking questions and sharing progress
- U.S. citizenship (required)
Bonus: Experience contributing to open source projects through CNCF, Apache Software Foundation, OpenSSF, or similar communities is a plus.
Technologies you'll work with: Kubernetes, cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure), infrastructure-as-code tools, continuous delivery and automation tooling, GitOps, containers, CNCF projects, Helm/Kustomize, and cloud-native applications.

Pay
Pay via Get A Job.ai: $102,000—$138,000 USD, based on experience
