Dutch Sports Localization Specialist (Football)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential localization services organization seeking a Dutch Sports Localization Specialist with deep football expertise. This is a remote, independent contractor opportunity for a linguist who lives and breathes the beautiful game and can adapt sports content for Dutch-speaking audiences with cultural precision and flair.

Our client transforms multilingual content for global brands, and this role focuses specifically on football-related materials—match coverage, player profiles, commentary, and more—ensuring every piece resonates authentically with fans in the Netherlands.

Responsibilities

• Review, localize, fact-check, translate, and adapt football-related content from English (US) to Dutch (Netherlands)
• Perform quality control, translation, copy editing, and machine translation post-editing tasks
• Ensure all content adheres to style guides and cultural guidelines for the target market
• Conduct market-specific research on local football terminology, trends, and best localization practices
• Provide constructive feedback on written content to maintain quality standards
• Stay current with football news, player movements, league developments, and fan culture in both source and target markets

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree and/or 2+ years of professional experience in linguistics, sports journalism, copywriting, or copy-editing
• Extensive football knowledge—you should know the difference between a false nine and a sweeper keeper
• Experience translating and localizing multimedia content, including machine translation evaluation
• Native-level fluency in Dutch (Netherlands)
• Excellent grammar and writing skills in Dutch
• Strong creative writing, proofreading, and editing abilities
• Tech-savvy with strong practical knowledge of computers, mobile devices, word processors, and spreadsheets
• Licensed version of Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Bonus qualifications:

• Published work on sports platforms or football publications
• Experience with sports media platforms, live score applications, or streaming services
• Ability to adapt voice and style for Gen Z audiences and modern football fan culture
