Software Engineer (Future Hiring)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential B2B SaaS organization in their search for a Software Engineer to join their team in the West Midlands. This is a future hiring pool position—by applying, you're expressing interest in being considered when roles become available.

Our client is building AI-powered products in a fast-moving market, and they've adopted agentic development workflows as their standard operating model. This isn't a traditional software engineering role, nor is it for engineers who are curious about AI-assisted development. It's for engineers who already work this way—writing executable specifications, using agentic coding tools as standard equipment, and applying critical judgment to AI-generated outputs before they ship.

This is a hybrid position based in Solihull, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Responsibilities

Agentic Development Systems

• Write clear, executable specifications (SDD/BDD) as the primary input for AI-assisted code generation and maintain them throughout implementation
• Use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalents) across the full software development lifecycle—from specification through implementation, test generation, and code review
• Apply critical judgment to AI-generated code and attestations before merge, assessing correctness, edge cases, security implications, and spec alignment
• Contribute to the team's agentic development practices, including spec standards and responsible AI tool usage

Feature Delivery

• Design, implement, and ship reliable, maintainable features built for high-volume, high-availability SaaS environments
• Ensure AI-generated code is clean, well-tested, and follows standards that make it understandable to both agentic systems and human teammates
• Own feature areas end-to-end, from requirements through production delivery, including defect resolution before customer impact

Code Quality & Review

• Review AI-generated code and attestations with rigor, catching what automation misses
• Develop unit and integration tests that verify real behavior, not just execution paths
• Contribute to technical standards and raise the bar on engineering excellence across the AI-driven SDLC

Collaboration & Systems Thinking

• Work closely with product managers, designers, and QA engineers to build the right solutions
• Think beyond immediate features to understand system interactions, data flows, and downstream effects
• Communicate clearly in writing across specs, code reviews, and async updates for globally distributed teams
• Participate in agile ceremonies including Sprint Reviews and technical presentations

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 2–5 years developing enterprise or SaaS software in production environments
• Personal fluency with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalents) used in daily work and real delivery scenarios—not as an experiment
• Hands-on experience with BDD/SDD frameworks and working from executable specifications as the primary development input
• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented or modern SaaS language; comfort learning new languages and frameworks
• Experience with RESTful API design and consumption
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL data stores
• Experience producing and maintaining automated test suites (unit, integration, or end-to-end)
• Experience in Agile delivery environments with CI/CD pipelines
• Strong written communication skills for specs, code reviews, and async updates

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent) and microservices architectures
• Familiarity with containerization, infrastructure-as-code, or observability tooling
• Experience developing or integrating AI/ML features in production SaaS products
• Background in B2B SaaS, CRM, or revenue technology
