About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization building a modern data platform that serves high-volume business operations. Our client processes data for thousands of locations and millions of end users, requiring both scale and precision.

This is an AI-first data engineering role. You will build and maintain cloud-native data infrastructure while leveraging cutting-edge AI tooling to accelerate your work. The platform you own will power analytics, operational reporting, and machine learning systems—making clean, reliable, well-modeled data essential to everything downstream.

We're seeking either an experienced engineer ready to own the platform or a strong mid-level professional eager to step into greater ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Build and optimize cloud-native data pipelines on AWS using ETL/ELT frameworks, incorporating AI tooling as a standard part of your workflow
  • Work with modern data stack components including Aurora, Redshift, dbt, Spark/EMR, Airflow, and CDC technologies
  • Design and evolve data models that support analytics, operational use cases, and AI/ML systems across a large-scale multi-tenant environment
  • Establish and maintain data reliability practices—governance, testing, lineage—so both human analysts and AI systems can trust the data by default
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate ambiguous business requirements into robust data solutions
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural patterns (data mesh, new AI tooling) and make informed decisions about what belongs in the production stack
  • Contribute to financial and regulatory reporting workstreams where correctness and auditability are non-negotiable

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience with a focus on data warehousing, and readiness to take on greater ownership than you've held previously
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for data transformation and pipeline development
  • Comfort using AI tools in your daily workflow—and the judgment to critically review and validate AI-generated output, especially where correctness matters
  • Solid understanding of data architecture and modeling principles: dimensional modeling, slowly-changing dimensions, incremental patterns (or the drive to deepen this knowledge quickly)
  • Hands-on experience with dbt on a cloud data warehouse—this is your primary environment
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and some exposure to non-relational systems (DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Track record of debugging complex data issues and implementing durable solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication

Nice to Have:

  • AWS experience (Redshift, EMR, Glue, S3, IAM); GCP or Azure experience also valued
  • Exposure to streaming or CDC technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, Debezium) or data mesh architectures
  • Experience building data pipelines that feed ML or AI systems
  • Background working with financial, payments, or regulated reporting data
  • German language skills
