About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential organization in their search for a Chief Legal Officer to lead all legal, governance, compliance, and risk management functions. This is a senior executive position reporting directly to the CEO and Board of Directors, based in Suriname.
Our talent team is conducting a targeted search for an experienced legal executive who can serve as a strategic advisor while building and leading a high-performing legal function.
Responsibilities
- Serve as principal legal advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team on strategic initiatives, transactions, and business operations
- Develop and execute legal strategy aligned with organizational objectives, including M&A, partnerships, and corporate restructuring
- Oversee corporate governance standards, board resolutions, corporate records, and fiduciary matters
- Lead enterprise-wide regulatory compliance programs and ensure adherence to applicable laws and industry standards
- Direct contract negotiation, drafting, and review for significant commercial agreements, partnerships, and vendor relationships
- Manage litigation strategy, dispute resolution, external counsel relationships, and regulatory investigations
- Lead legal due diligence and transaction structuring for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and investments
- Promote ethics, integrity, and compliance culture; oversee whistleblower programs and internal investigations
- Build and develop the legal and compliance team, manage budgets, and establish operational processes
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent law degree required
- Licensed attorney admitted to practice in a relevant jurisdiction
- 15+ years of progressive legal experience
- Minimum 5+ years in a senior legal leadership role such as General Counsel, CLO, Head of Legal, or Legal Director
- Proven experience advising executive leadership teams and boards of directors
- Strong expertise in corporate law, governance, regulatory compliance, and commercial contracts
- Demonstrated success managing complex legal transactions, M&A activity, and litigation matters
- Experience building and leading legal teams with budget and resource management responsibilities
- Strategic thinker with ability to anticipate legal risks and develop mitigation frameworks
