Security Engineer Intern

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in Paris that is seeking a Security Engineer Intern to join their technical security team. This is a hands-on internship where you will be a full contributing member of the security engineering function, not an observer. You will handle real security incidents, conduct audits, and own projects from start to finish with dedicated mentorship throughout your placement.

Responsibilities

• Triage, investigate, and respond to day-to-day security alerts, escalating appropriately based on risk and urgency
• Improve detection capabilities by reducing false positives, identifying gaps, and proposing new security signals
• Automate recurring manual security checks and alert workflows through scripting
• Conduct targeted security audits spanning applications, configurations, and third-party integrations, typically ranging from a few days to several weeks
• Translate audit findings into prioritized remediation plans with clear business context
• Own and deliver security projects across the engineering platform from conception to implementation
• Perform security reviews and hardening of internal tools and external integrations
• Support fraud investigations by analyzing patterns, tracking abuse vectors, and developing earlier detection methods

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Fast learner with genuine curiosity about information security and how systems can be compromised and defended
• Action-oriented mindset: you respond quickly, close loops, and maintain momentum on tasks
• Pragmatic approach to risk: you can calibrate your response appropriately and understand that not every issue is critical
• Comfortable collaborating across engineering teams and asking questions to understand context
• Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken
• Scripting ability in Python or equivalent languages
• Basic understanding of web applications, APIs, and cloud computing environments

Highly valued experience:

• Personal security projects, CTF participation, homelab experimentation, bug bounty submissions, or published security research
• Exposure to SIEM platforms, detection rule development, or large-scale log analysis
• Interest in fraud patterns and abuse detection in financial technology products

What this role is not:

• This is not a governance, risk, compliance, or policy-writing focused internship
• This is not a penetration testing internship
• This is not a passive monitoring role—you will actively improve the systems you work with
