Senior Backend Developer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential digital technology consultancy seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join their London-based engineering team. This is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in the London office. Our client works on complex, business-critical digital transformation projects, delivering end-to-end solutions from strategy through to operations.

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will architect scalable backend systems, champion engineering excellence, and mentor team members while working on high-impact client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Design and build end-to-end backend subsystems using Go, ensuring modularity, maintainability, and scalability
• Champion engineering excellence through code reviews and proactive security measures
• Guide unit, integration, and service-level testing strategies while introducing industry best practices
• Translate complex technical decisions into clear language for client stakeholders and deliver engaging solution demonstrations
• Mentor and coach colleagues, sharing knowledge and supporting professional growth across the team
• Evaluate trade-offs between delivery pace and system health, maintaining accountability for successful feature launches

What We're Looking For

• Proven hands-on experience building, scaling, and troubleshooting secure Go (Golang) systems and microservices in high-traffic environments
• Experience with at least one other major programming language, demonstrating flexibility across varied tech stacks
• Practical proficiency with Kubernetes and Helm for deploying and managing containerized applications
• Strong experience with full Agile delivery lifecycles and Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines
• Passion for clean code, comprehensive testing, and uplifting colleagues through empathetic code reviews and mentorship
• Ability to balance technical trade-offs between feature momentum and long-term system maintainability
• Bonus: Experience with Java development, SQL databases, and monitoring tools like Splunk
